Default $1700 for 2002 400ex

Thats how much I have offered for it. It looks clean from pics. The user said that it is in excellent condition. He had it posted for $2000 . Assuming its in excellent condition is it a good buy? It also has a jet kit and aftermarket exhaust.

Look at bearings, front wheel, rear axle, and swing arm. Listen to the engine for knocks or ticks. Pull the plug. Should be a nice light brown and dry. Look at the air filter. See if it's clean (indicates the guy cares for it). Look at the oil. Should be clean and no foam. Look at tires. They can always be replaced but are expensive. Also, bald rears and good fronts indicate lots of burn outs. Not good on the tranny. Look at the rear plastics for scratches. This indicates wheelies. Look at steering. If the bars are not straight, it may have been wrecked. Look for bent frame anywhere. Feel where the clutch engages and also how much lever travel it takes to go from the first hint of engagement to fully engaged. You're looking for about 1/2" - 3/4". Look for how much lever travel is left when fully engaged. If the lever is almost out all the way when the clutch engages, it may need a clutch. But maybe just an adjustment. Also, you should be able to leave it in 1st and put the brakes on, coming to nearly a stop, enough that you know the clutch is good. (The engine will want to stall if the clutch is good). Run it downhill in a low gear and look for blue smoke out the exhaust, which would indicate bad rings. That's all the things I check.
