That's a fair price for a 300EX if it's in good shape. Good tires, good brakes, nice plastic,..etc,etc.

93-03 models in good condition hover in that 1200 to 1500 range usually. Newer models go for a bit more but are no different than the older models except that the 06 model got updated looking plastics.
There no mechanical differences in any of the 93-09 models. 90% of the parts are on a 300EX are shared with the 87-92 250X as well.

As for things to look for on a used 300EX,..First would be the crankcase cover right in front of the front sprocket. 2 out of every 3 out there have had the cases repaired from a chain derailment at some point. If it has been repaired and was welded,.no problem. If it was fixed with JB Weld, count on fixing it again at some point because most forms of JB Weld regardless of brand "shrinks" with a little age and will cause an oil leak again.

Another is the swingarm pivot bolt and swingarm bearings. Rock the machine side to side to see if you have any wear. They are prone to going bad and also prone to seized pivot bolts. It's all but impossible to check for a seized bolt unless you have a very patient and accommodating seller, but the bearings are easy to check for wear and if they have wear, count on a 50/50 shot of a seized pivot bolt.

Check out the rear axle carrier for cracks. Also check out the rear axle bearings there.

As for anything else, just inspect it as you would any other quad, but these are the big issues on these machines that will cause a couple benjamins to disappear with each problem. And something you should factor into the price negotians if these problems are found. Good luck
