Default Should I buy a 250x??

I am trying to buy a used sport atv and i have considered the Honda 300ex, 250x, or a Yamaha Warrior. But what i want to know is how good is the 250x?? How does it handle on the trails? Is it reliable? How fast is it? I want a quad with some speed and good handling. Does the 250x have reverse? One of the main reasons I want to buy a 250x is because they are so cheap, but are they cheap for a bad reason?
Thanks

Just for the record, what use to be the 250EX is now the 250X, so Honda has caused a bit of confusion there!

The 300EX is just a 250X bored out and with electric start. While you may not hear much about the 250X, there is lots of info on the 300EX out there and I think you will find that it is a fine quad...mine sure was! My friends who have the 250X say it has a little more bottom end grunt than the 300EX. From what I can tell watching them, the 250X can be a challenge to kick start at times.

These along with their big brother the 400EX, are the best tight trail quads on the planet! This is where they are at their best....

If I were you though, I would go looking for a 400EX instead of messing with the smaller machines. For sure...avoid the Warrior!

250x is a great quad. Over 20yrs old I had only had to replace some bearings, and a CDI box.

the 250x is a good bike but defintely geta 300 over the 250 just for the few extra cc's and the ELECTRIC START! the 300 is pretty cheap now days. if you can hold out and save some more loot up you'd be 100 times happier with a 400ex though! your gona wanna upgrade soon after riding the 250 or 300ex

My 87 250X starts first or second kick everytime. It is every bit as fast as a 300EX. I would not shy away from a 250X. They are a little lighter than a 300EX so that's why they are just as fast. Horsepower is 1 hp more on the 300 but it's heavier. Almost every part off of a 300EX will fit a 250X.

I found a 92 250x for sale that is only $650 and its got an FMF exhuast. Most 300ex's that I look at in my area are in the $1200 price range. Do you think this 250x is worth it?

As long as the motor is sound, and it has been taken decent care of, that sounds like a good deal. The 250X will start easy if kept tuned up, one or two kicks should be all it takes on a properly maintained machine. I would not hesitate for almost half the money,as long as the quad is in good conditioin. Both the 250 and 300 are great on the trail, but if you can swing the extra cash, the 400 will go quite a bit faster, but you will not have reverse.

I found a 06 trx 250 ex at a dealer for 998. The only thing wrong with it is the plastics are alil beat up. the motor has 1 hour riding time on it. good deal or junk heap?

250-man, he is asking about a 250X which is a completely different quad than a 250EX.
