Default 2008 foreman valve adjustment

I would like to adjust the valves on my foreman, but the owners manual doesn't show how. Has anyone found a good service manual thats easy to follow?

A mistake I've seen inexperienced people make is getting the piston at top dead center, but between the exhaust and intake stroke when the valves are slightly open in an overlap stage. When you get it at top dead center, make sure there is play in the rocker arms. This would indicate the valves are fully closed, confirming you have TDC between compression and power stroke, where it needs to be to check valve gap.

Post back if you have any questions.

Dang, I wonder why they pulled that down...

In a nutshell, remove the fuel tank cover, fuel tank, and a heat shield below. Remove the two valve inspection caps on the top of the engine. There is a chrome allen head plug on the side of the engine you also remove.

Then turn the engine slowly until you see a "T" in the window, indicating the piston is top dead center. See if there is play in the two rocker arms. If so, you are ready to adjust. If both rockers are tight, it is because the valves are in overlap between exhaust and intake stroke. You need to turn the engine one turn until the T is back and both rockers have slack (TDC between compression and power stroke).

Spec is .006 intake and exhaust, cold engine. You may need a bent feeler gauge to get it straight into the gap so you can get an accurate feel. There should be light drag.

Cool 2008 Honda Foreman Valve Adjustment

The best and fastest way i've found on valve specifications and adjustment is to remove the spark plug and use a peice of vacume hose or fuel line hose that will just fit the spark plug hole by screwing is in for a tight fit , then turn the crank shaft clockwise untill you feel pressure pushing again't your thumb when you're using your thumb to plug the hole of the rubber hose ; as soon as you feel the pressure turn the crank shaft untill the T lines up with the stationary mark this will ensure you're on the compression stroke !

Hope this helps you get her going asap !.........

Thanks for the info guys. Did the valve adjustment tonight. No surprises at all and the valves sounded much happier as I was riding it out of the garage tonight. The gap had opened up quite a bit, especially on the intake. Surprising, since I wasn't even due for the 2nd service yet and first service was done at the dealer.

I think my Foreman didn't need adjustment until past 1000 miles. The Rincon's intake was off a bit on the 1st check and has never changed since...
