Default 250ex Rear end Grinding?

Hey guys,

I just got a 2003 Honda 250ex it seems to run good. But sometimes makes a grinding noise from the rear?

When inspecting the rear it seems tight.

But theres a little metal piece dangling on the left side of the axle, I can push it back in with my fingers, But it seems to come back off sometimes?

What should i do?

Thanks...

Do you not have an owner's manual?

Could be that the rear gear case is empty, and you are grinding up your gears???

There is a large fill hole on the top, and a small weep hole on the side. You overfill it a little, and remove the weep hole bolt and it flows out the hole and that is how you know you have the proper oil level.

It takes a "hypoid" gear oil, but I don't have an owner's manual in front of me for the exact specs (GL4 I think???).

I see the top big bolt. I removed it & I can see the gears in there & i see oil on the lid. I smell the oil, But i cant see any in there.

I was unable to find the weep hole?

Its my sons bike, Hes says it only sounds funny every once in a while when he goes around a turn?

Weep hole (little bolt head) is on the left side as you look at it from the rear.

If it does it in turns only, you may have slop in the axle.
