400ex is air cooled right?
I think the best bet is an oil cooler kit, has to be in air flow, but also has to be out of harms way.. behind a grated grill like a radiator would be the best bet (if you have a nice bumper like that...
You could than add a fan to that too, and hell, you can put valves on the lines, so you can close her up in winter untill she gets HOT

Can you describe why you think you are running hot????
I ride So. Calif. where it can get warm (it's probably 115 degrees today at Glamis!), and while there have been occasions when I thought my lightly moded EX was running hot (like pulling a long dune on a hot day), I have never ever felt that it ran hot in general......
A change in oil might help! Friction means heat, so the slicker the oil you run the less friction you will have, and therefore run cooler. I run Redline ester synthetic MC Oil, which is friction modified with organic modifiers that are still wet clutch safe (!). http://www.redlineoil.com/prod...oil.asp?categoryID=11
Are you running lean for any reason? Like a bad air filter or a leak in your air intake boot?

from my experiences from a 300ex a had a few years back it just seems like its running hotter and it may not be at all
i run alot of mud and dirt in north central missouri and south ceneral iowa
had a recent oil and filter change about a week ago and used lucas 10w-30 mc oil which exceeds hondas specs so i didnt think that would be it
