420 Rancher Clutch Adjustment
Hey there mchanics, I need some help.
I have an 07 Rancher 420ES and the last time I rode it (and since then) sometimes when I try to shift in any gear, the gear indicator shows a hash line and it does not shift out of the current gear. I have to slow a little and press the button again.
I thought it needed a clutch adjustment, so I read my shop book and did it (or so I thought). The book says to loosen the lock nut and turn the screw clockwise one turn, then turn counterclockwise ?until resistance is felt? and then turn 1/4 turn clockwise.
When I did this I never felt resistance when turning counterclockwise.
I read in another thread to turn the screw all that way in clockwise until it stops, then turn 1/4 turn counterclockwise. Is this what I should do?
Also, am I correct about it being a clutch issue or do I have other, more serios problems?
Thanks in advance! you guys have saved me so much time and money in the past it's unreal!

You have to turn it back a long ways..like 3 whole turns to get tension...depends on how much adjustment is needed..just be sure to turn it back out a 1/4 turn...
Having said that, I think you are looking more at a sensor issue. Angle sensors could be dirty or going out, common problem with these ES models. Mine does the same thing here and there...
Recon Ranger should chime in on this one..
