Default Just bought a 01 Rubicon and it wont move. No gears Nothing at all

Here is the story.

I bought a 01 Rubicon that i knew was broken. I do not knwo what happened to it but the owner said "it quit pulling".

Well after sitting for 2 years the old Honda fired right up and idled perfect on the old gas. I put the shifter in drive & ESP and hit the up button. 1,2,3,4, & 5 appear but the bike never moves. I tried D1 and D2 and it never moves. I do not hear it even trying to shift. there is no weired noises or grinding. The bike just sits there like it is in neutral.

I am a new owner and have no experience with the rubicon or the auto tranny so any help would be great.

Thanks
Chris

BTW i got a steal on the bike and even got the original paper work!!! $250

sick ,at that price itd be worth it to fix!

on the other hand, it sounds like the tranny is shot,

you could probably make 2g's at least by parting that baby out on ebay

i dont know much about those electric shifts other than that they are terrible and break all the time

First with regards to the previous 2 posters, this is a rubicon with the hondamatic. The hondamatic is a hydrostatic drive tranny, there is no clutch nor electric shift motor (not along the same lines as the ES foremans and ranchers anyway).

You may have a bad pump, with no fluid pressure you would have no movement. You may be able to pick up a used hondamatic unit, but hopefull HondaMechanic can give you some trouble shooting procedures to check first!!!

I wouldn't start the bike again until the oil pressure is checked .. I'd guess that the oil pump chain came off..

The one in that picture is average (at 5000 it is approx. 150 psi) a really good pump will hold the needle (on the Honda gauge) tight to the max pin (approx. 180 psi) .. The pressure should be around 40 & 150 to be good ..

I own a 2001 rubicon, and in fact it does have a centrifugal clutch, Buy the factory manual and check the trouble shute section, this quad has a self diagnostic mode, like the OBD sistem on cars

so 40psi or so at an idle. I will check it tonight.

a manual will be on the way. If the pressure is 0 then there will be a manual, oil pump, and chain on the way.

I would check the codes but the battery has been dead for two years nothing is flashing.

thanks for the info on the rubicon oil pump. that seems to be the issue. i removed the plug and started the bike. very little oil splased out of the hole. no where near 40psi.

i hae been told that there is an o-ring on the oil filter that can cause this. is that true and where is the filter? i looked it over but did not see one. i am used to a 300ex and older 350x three wheelers but i did not see the 3 bolt cover plate.

thanks
chris
