honda rancher 420 any good?
i have been reading dirtwheels magazine and 4 wheel atv action articles about the honda rancher 420. i want to know what the owners of these ATVs think of them. how is the 4wd system? i have a limited slip 4x4 timberwolf that isnt much fun due to its lack of power. whats the top speed of the 420's? how much did you pay for your 4wd version. im thinking of trading in either a 2001 trailblazer 250, or my baby 400ex. more or less the trail blazer. how much is that polaris worth in trade in. its in good condition. thanks for any replies

I have a Rancher 420 4x4 Es. The engine runs flawlessly tons of power. IT can easily pull the front wheels off the ground in first and second gear. The 4x4 select is very smooth and the easiest to use I have seen ( I also have a Yamaha 450 Kodiak). I sold a Yamaha Big Bear to buy this. The Honda has a lot more power. My only complaints are a bit of a bouncy ride and the stock tires are too small. Top speed I have seen 60 mph listed some where, and I have no reason to believe it wouldnt go that fast. I have only gone 45 mph and it was still stable at that speed.

I love my Rancher TRX420FM; selectable 4wd with manual 5-speed. Photos on my page here shows how I've worked it, and there are also links to more of my pages off this site with photos and maps where I've been riding this summer. More often than not my wife goes with me, and I have clocked 50 mph on the GPS with her on the back. The stats say top speed for this machine stock is 56 mph. I think I paid $5,199 back in April. I would recommend this model to anyone who would be putting it to similar use.

This is the best value for your dollar of any quad on the market! I like this size machine...not to big,but still big enought to get the job done. You get fuel injection, water cooling, and a great torque sensing limited slip front end. Acceleration is snappy, and top speed is good. Suspension is good as well.
Superb trail quad, but that is all it is....a trail quad. If you need a monster mud bogger or a heavy work quad, than buy something else.
I had mine at 11,000' last weekend, and it ran every bit as good up there as it runs at sea level.

i have heard that all honda ranchers are very good. they are the most popular honda utillity atvs ( i think ). and a 450 is a big atv so i think it would be awesome to have one of those. it might not be good for sports though.

I can't say enough about this machine. The Honda 420 Rancher in my opinion is the best machine you can get for the money. I have owned mine for about 2 months now and have enjoyed every minute of it. IF you are new to this sport or a seasoned vet the rancher will not leave you dissapointed. There is a reason that the Rancher is the best selling utility ATV around. I picked mine up for 5,000 OTD.
