Hey thanks for taking a look. Well first off i own a 1997 honda 300ex , bought off a guy who had it since it was new. he's son is well ruff on things.. When i was riding the quad home from his house after buying. it seemed the wheeler wouldnt go past half throttle would just studder sounded like it was limited. So i had my nieghbor take a look told me i needed to jet it becuase of the pipe that was opn t. now i wish i could tell u what pipe it is but i have NO idea. this pipe is loud and cheap. pull out this really cheap lookin silencer witch has no screen or disc's and its a stright pipe. well i tear this apart found it needed a tming chain replaced, timed and jetted not sure what i jetted all seems to ark about the same i went with the specs they give u fer altuitude and such. k Basicly my quad wont go past half throttle sometimes the rev light flickers sometimes it dont. he sounds like its limited but i cant do but 40mph. plenty of torgue no top end at all. ideas? why is my top end so limited, do i need a new rev box? oh its after market K&n air box lid on/off runs the same but does seem to spit some gas fuems back into the tube when it starts cutting in/out....... Do i need a dif pipe? please someone tell me u have had this problem i am so fed up with this wheeler . cant keep up with my friends and im a decent rider! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well from your description the only thing i can think of is possibly the reverse inhibitor is flawed. since you said the reverse light flickers sometimes & when your in reverse if u give it more then half throttle the bike sputters & spits thats about all i can think of. Peace.

 

I had that same eact problem. To temporarly fix it take a bungee cord and tie the reverse handle down and it wont do it ne more. There is a spring inside the side cover and it maybe broke. But you can ride it forever with the bungee cord at least i did until i sold it. Let me know if it works.

 

k will try the cord thing, and it only lets me go half throttle in all gears, kinda like when your in reverse u can only go sa far. hopefully this works, thanks guys +)

 

cord didnt work, still sputters 50% throttle and up threw all the gears. thinking its the reverse inhibitor. ill get me on off e-bay soons enought. hope thats it im SICK of it +) thanks guys

 

Ur timing is off!!!! Dont ride it ur hurting the engine! Especially if theres gas fumes/fuel coming out the carb backwards. What u need to do is read the manual and reset the timing. Also u need to inspect these things.

Check the chain tensioner
take off right case and inspect chain slider and guider
check the rocker to valve guide clearance

after u do all that and it all looks and works okay id say maybe ur cdi box could be going bad. but im pretty sure its ur timing. or its still jetted wrong. or both. or ur coil is going bad. I wouldnt ride it till its fixed.

 

Timing is correct i just timed to BOOK specs, and jetted to where i live by the paper u get in jet kit and i have been riding it. its the reverse inhibitor and a bad intake valve

 

Oh New timing chain, was replaced when i did timing. valve clearance was done. IN fact this bike was timed 2 times, tore apart and timed. ive jetted and rejetted

 

u try cleaning the carbs? what about a plug check to make sure ur jetting is good?

 

all checked, dont get it. im just gonna upgrade my cam/valve/springes see what happens. let yas know when i do
