Very nice!

I always liked the 88 red plastic over the 89 white ...

Powerslider,
Thats the same bike you drooled over a few years ago. I actually talked to Scott for the first time today. I'm going to
go see him one day next week. I asked him if he knew your name, said it wasnt ringing any bells. What did you get from him? He and I discussed the direction I'm planning on going with this 88.

I'm shelving all the New discontinued parts on the quad, like the seat cover, exhaust flange, skid plates, bars, tool box,and ignition key thing. I'll use the quad in the woods for a while. When its ready to get redone I'll return it back to stock again. I'm not afraid to work it. Its all good.

I'm very surprised he sold it, lucky you lol. I was pretty sure from your seat that it was the same one, it's overstuffed a little more than normal plus he mentioned the problem with getting the decal to bond on the rear of the seatcover.

I bought an 88 trx250r from him a year ago last February, he had yours in his basement along with an 89 in equally good condition. I took pictures of my 87 powervalved 350 to show him, he knows every detail of every year. I only met him that one time, took a friend (Chet) with me when I picked it up. 2 hour drive one way from my place to Lapeer, left after work and I didn't get home till 2:30 the next morning. We shot the breeze several hours, he has some nice toys lol. Did you have to lay out some serious cash for your 88? I'm just curious as to what the guy you bought it from had to give Scott for it. I told you what he quoted me and I could have bought it but I wanted one to ride. I never would have rode that one after all that was put into it, he even had some special nylon lined sockets made to assemble it so the fasteners wouldn't get marred up. Some of the small decals he had special made so it would be original looking as possible. I wish Honda still made these models, I'd buy one of every year.

See what he has in stock, I'm not really looking but something as nice as yours would be hard to pass up.

Hey powerslider - what price did Scott quote you when you were looking at this quad? I am just curious b/c I heard he had a pristine 88 250r that he "wouldn't sell" but if he did it would be for no less than $10,000. Is this the one?

I recently purchased a 250r in nice shape and the seller said he got it from Scott in LaPeer, MI. Apparently scott does good work. I'm glad someone is keeping these R's alive!!!

As for you, 2strokefreak, once you ride it in the woods it will never be the same!!! I have two 88's and one is bone stock like yours, all factory original. But it has some paint rubbed off the frame where it has been rode a few times. Now if I powdercoat the frame, it won't be factory original, it will be "restored." Besides, I cannot replace all the decals and the bolts will all have wrench marks! So I am leaving it as-is and putting it away (not riding it). I bought the other 88 to ride in the woods!!

Addictedtomud,

I bought this machine to use, not to look at. Besides the frame is powdercoated, arms and front bumper are repainted.
The decals are correct reproductions. Like slider said, the seat is a replacement cover that the Fourtraxx logo is silkscreened on. Just so you know all of the correct factory decals can be had if you do decide to p/c yours.

Yes it is the quad that Scott was asking 9-10k for. I did pay far less than that though. About a grand less than if I were to get a new 450r with the HRC kit installed. I did ride a 450R with the HRC kit on it and was un-impressed. Then I happened by this 88 and jumped on it. Scott nor the guy I bought it from had ever ridden it after it was completed. Its like they were saving it for me, and I am greatful.

The transformation of the 88 has begun. I'm boxing up and storing all the discontinued parts from Honda. Ive already installed new:twin row bearing carrier, axle (durablue eliminator, stock length), durablue hubs, anti-fade, and wave rotor.
Also installed a billet case saver, OMF swingarm plate, and OMFChassis skid. After this weekend's ride I plan to put away the ignition cylender, bars and controls, tool box, parking brake, exhaust cone, and seat cover. If I can get a reasonable replacement seat pan I'll just put away the complete seat. Maybe a stainless bolt kit too, before all the correct bolts get crudded up.

I may even pull the cylender and put it away too, since its on the stock bore.

Snap-On sells those "special" nylon lined non-marring sockets if I need them. The only drawback with them is getting proper torque on the bolts.

Sorry if I break any hearts by enjoying this machine.

I'm thinking of becoming a supporting member so you all can see how the transformation is going.

Thanks for your all of your .02, keep it coming!

Beech Man,

Where can I find one. I know the one with the fourtrax logo is discontinued from Honda. Tried swappin rear fender assy. with my 86. It doesnt fit. The latch location is different. Might pick one up off fleabay and get a gripper cover. Never tried one, wanna see what its like.

I think the only color you can get from Honda on the seat is black with no logo's. Glad to see that quad is in good hands, you got an awesome deal then. I can only wish I had your luck lol.....
