Horsepower is only a third of the speed and power equation. Other factors are torque and WEIGHT. Bayou= 404 lbs. EX=349 lbs. Torque difference is negligible. The EX has higher gear ratios as well, meaning higher speed in general. In stock trim and good running condition, the EX beats the Bayou any time, anywhere. The EX has vastly superior suspension as well, so it is much more entertaining to ride. The Bayou will work a little harder on chores.
From the sounds of WoodsRunners posts I think it is safe to say that he would be willing to race a stock 250EX, so why doesn't someone who lives near him line up your 250EX and race! He is telling you what his experience has been, and is backing up his race results with solid reasoning as to why the results are the way they are. You guys rip him but have no proof of what you say. All you guys have is numbers on paper. I for one need more than that before I believe it as truth. What reason would he have for lying about this? Now don't start ripping on me...all I am saying is unless someone races him and proves him wrong, then I would have to believe what he says as I have never seen these two machines line up to race.
Hey WoodsRuner, not saying you're lying or anything of that nature, but I have raced both and the 250EX out accelerated and out ran the 220. My friend and I who are both experianced riders were playing around on my kids quads one evening and dragged them. My results were that the 250EX smoked the Bayou 220. Keep in mind that our Bayou is a 1998 model and the 250 EX was new, but my friend had a 25 pound weight advantage on me. The results were what I expected. I am not knocking the Bayou because I think it has a great running motor and does a pretty good job on handling a few small chores, but we mainly just have it for the kids to ride and play on. It's all for fun anyway. That is just my experiance with these two quads.
The 250 ex is an all around better ride....kind of can't really compare the two....better to compare a Recon and a 220.....the 250ex is a recon hybrid, but it is different enought that you can't compare the two.
Some quads are just faster than they're suppose to be!
My Ozark will run neck-n-neck with a buddies Eiger, even top end. All thats been done to it is a front end alignment. It was toed in 1.25" from the factory.
My 400EX spanked a Raptor and a Preditor and its completely stock!...............huh?
OK!..........I'm totally lieing about the 400EX
but I'm strait up about the Ozark
that would be a good race. both suck but i would prob. go with the bayou. Its a 220 but the 250 ex's are too slow and take forever to get to top end. my 2 cent..
