Correct. I have no idea what the rear wheel hp is for either. Probably on the
order of 12-13, since both are shaft drive.
And from what I hear, the Bayou 250 has less crank hp than a pre-2001 220.
Remember, all newer stock ATVs are detuned so much it isn't funny.
They all conform to California's lastest b*llsh*t emissions standards. Thanks Ca.
Expaining the need to increase the Bayous displacement from 215 cc to 228 cc.
I do know the 2003 Rancher 350 is rated 20 bhp and 15.2 rear wheel hp.
woods runer, how do u think a bayou 220 will beat a 250ex. it obvously wont. dirtwheels did a test between the bayou 250 arctic cat 250 and between a beartracker 250. the top speed on the 250 bayou was 41. a 250ex does 53 or so. ur 220 does not go faster than that 250 bayou. so if the 250 bayou is faster than your 220 and the 250 ex is faster than the 250 bayou it is obviously gonna be faster than the 220 bayou. i own a 2003 250 ex n it does 54 so 54 is more than 41 so whqat do u think my answer is derf the 250 ex is faster and always will be

I have both a Bayou 220 and a 250EX for the kids and I can tell you from first hand experiance that the 250EX out runs the Bayou. No comparison in top speed, acceleration and handling.
Once again, I raced (2) 250Ex's with my daughters 220 and beat them both in 100 yards drags.
Did I not say the EX's had a higher top end?
Did I not also say the 250Exs beat me in 300 yard drags?
I have also said I am basing this on my on experiences only. If you choose to believe otherwise,
ain't no skin off my back. But I will point out that I have heard of other 220's beating other 250EX's
also. BUT ONLY IN ACCELERATION (IE: short drags)
And BTW, top speed on my daughters 2000 220 is 48, clocked.
pfendler03, the 2000 Bayou 220 is faster than the Bayou 250. After 2000 they were detuned.
That is why they upped it to 250. If you had read all my posts you would have seen that.
It is fairly obvious that some of you don't read the whole topic before replying, just the first line of a post
and then fly off because you disagree. Seeing how the Bayou 220 that I have has 3 more hp than the 250EX and is geared lower, why is it so difficult to believe? Not that I care.
I've never seen a slower quad than a bayou. It's the same thing as a yamaha moto-4. My father's quadrunner 230 was killing those moto-4 and bayou. I had a quadsport last year that was a lot faster than my father's quadrunner and it was rated at 11 BHP. You're bayou is for sure not 13 HP. I don't know how fast the 250EX is but I imagine is a little faster than my quadsport. Both are 229CC, but the quadsports are tired .
TheQuadSport230, You are right! It is not 13 hp. It is 17 hp. Another example of not reading the posts
completely I would say.
Go to the Kawasaki website, to vehicle information, then to the 2000 Bayou 220, and view the PDF.
17 hp plain as day. Seeing is Believing, unless you are blind or prejudiced.
I will take on a 230 anytime you wish with the Bayou pal. Bring it on. I had a 1988 LT230.
Biggest piece of junk I ever owned. Wasn't much faster than the 125 my daughter had at that
time. Put out about 10 hp I would guess.
Next time I drag race a 250EX I will take pics of me crossing the 100 yard line in front of it. Of course,
all those predujiced among you will not believe that either. (Who cares anyway.)
I guessed at RWHP. Can't say as I know how much is lost in a shaft drive.
I would say it is higher than that, just based on how it runs.
Wheelies with ease. Even does running wheelies in 2nd.
Maybe I got a one in one thousand or something, h*ll I don't know.
But the little sucker hauls *ss.
I would say you all think the Recon is faster also? Same engine and
trany. Same gear ratios. Same shaft drive.
