87 quadrnner rea brake problem

I just boght this old atv and need to repair th brakes. I started on the rear, but don't understand what it takes to get the rear brake off. do I have to take the left wheel off and pull the axle out of the rear end to get the rear brake offtge right side? I can't find any schematic that is understandable on the web... Babbit's, etc.
