Default Boat trailer for ATV?

I have 2 Recons and no trailer. I hate to spend a lot of money on a trailer. So I was browsing Craigs List and I see a lot of boat trailers for sale dirt cheap. Why couldn't I just put two 2 x 12's lengthwise on the deck and put my Recons on it? Seems like it would work perfectly. Oh, I'm sure there would be a few other mods I'd have to make but I'm pretty creative. I am wondering why I don't see any like that.

Default Boat

I have seen people use boat trailers to haul quads. In fact one guy I saw used his trailer to haul one quad...it then had about a ten foot tongue in front of it! Good Luck with your fabrication...it will take some work to get it going.

I have made several trailers from boat trailers.as long as its for a reguler boat like a bow rider and not a tiny jon boat.most fiberglass boats start out at 1000Lbs with out the moter and gas ect.. so they should handle 12-1300lbs for sure.Dont use wood for the frame though.use some thick angle iron or 1.5 sqare tubing then deck it with wood.pull the hubs to and regrease the bearings because it sucks to loose a tire on the hwy.good luck

my friend did that to haul 3 motorcycles- works great. He used PT decking, been using it for years. Depending on the trailer- it's not very difficult at all to do.

I believe you could do it with the right trailer.
