Hard to beat those Alpine Stars. You might want to look into the Thor Quadrants as well.

Default Boots

I don't know where you guys are riding...

But, from my experiance those boots are fine for Dirt bike riders, that are putting out a foot for balance and are exposed to all sorts of brush as they tear through the woods. These folks NEED the steel toes and shin guards.

ME? I ride four wheel ATVs. My feet are not needed for stability, I keep my legs tucked into the frame protected front and rear by BIG Wheels.

I wear an old set of Construction boots (Steel toe & Shank), along with a heavy set of jeans (not a kid's set of fashion jeans).

This keeps me plenty safe and when I have to wade into a swamp - I am protected from all of the sharp things that are hiding there.

It all depends on the type of riding that you are doing.

IMHO
