want to get a winch but not sure which to get cable or synthetic . Probally wont get used a whole lot ,but just might need it.thanks

i just got a 9' synthetic rope for plowing this winter as its hard on wire rope becuse of the sharp angle. so im gona try this see how well it works.

i quess it all depends on what you have to spend, and what kinda riding you do. id say if you do ridding in rocks and places with sharp objects youd be better to stick with steel as it wont cut as easy as rope. id go with synthetic if you just do alota trail riding and some off road.

depends on what you do, and if you want to spend the extra money.

Thanks for helping me decide too. I am wondering now who to buy from. I have heard that Gorilla's are decent quality but it says on their website that they are now changing their name to ProMark. Anyone know what the deal is? Do you recommend them?

this is the guy i got my 9' from. fast shipping. seems like a great deal. look around st his store. he has differnt colors. $50 total for 50' long syn rope

Synthetic has some advantages .
and disadvantages: One is it is sensative to heat, the other is sensative to abrasion.

I really like synthetic. It doesn't rust, it doesn't kink, it is lighter, it doesn't get burrs or broken strands that can slice through your glove and/or hand... and I think if a person were to break a cable, synthetic might be less prone to take your head off.

On the other hand, you have to use a protector sleeve if the cable bends over a rock or anything else with an edge, and you need to keep your roller failhead free of ridges, dings or nicks.

synthetic is okay for the occasional winch user I would think. Like it's been said, straight pulls with out bending over anything with an edge. Cable is def. more durable, but also is heavier, can fall victim to the elements (corrasion)...
