Default Older 4x4 advice

To keep it short I'm looking for a 4 wheel drive to plow with and the gf can ride with me. I'm trading my 08 Sportsman 800 for a 05 pred LE plus cash and using the extra cash to buy a 4x4. Keeping the 52" plow from sportsman.

Right now my eye is set on a 94 Suzuki King Quad 300. Couple mirrors, quick disconnect windshield, newish tires, and about 1300 miles IIRC on it for 1600.

Are there some other quads I should be looking for, for under 2k? Shifting machines are fine. I'm hopeing to find something bigger than a 300 to keep up with the Pred a little easier. Also something to ride 2 up on sometimes be nice too. Also would like something with 2 wheel drive and 4x4 optional but not necessary. It's a selling point on the KQ. Wet grass or a muddy dirt is lot more fun in 2wd than 4 sometimes. I had a 94 Timberwolf 250 and that was such a blast to drive. I'd have ridden it more as much as the 800 had my buddys not been on 700 raptor and 700 kfx. Lot less to worry about breaking if it tumbles over, tiny little thing to dart through woods, and if it gets stuck just pick it up and throw it!

Any ideas? I'm in negotiations with a 96 Honda Foreman 400 but he doesn't seem to keen on having to wait 2 weeks. Predator guy has to wait that long to come up with the extra cash and to deliver me the machine.

Im not sure what your area is, but locally, i've seen a 600 grizzly for sale for like 2300......im sure the owner would take 2k for it, you just have to get lucky and find these deals. Check craigslist, atvtraderonline.com, etc

I just came back from a fishing trip last week and a person with a beat up 95 300 KQ with a boat rack, rotting muffler, bald tires and a zillion miles came along. We have to ride 9 miles down a rough slow trail to get to our camp spot with everyone loaded up.

Well the guys 300 KQ rolled into the lake at night and disappeared under the water while he was cleaning fish he was using KQ lights to see. We manage to hook on to ATV because its lights were still on under 6 feet water so we found it easy. We pulled it out, pulled the spark plug to let the motor drain, drained air box and left it overnight wondering who was going to tow it back to the trucks.

Next day we drained the oil into a container and drained carb bowel of water, the old oil had water in it but we skimmed what good we could off the top of the container (OIL Floats) and put it back in the old girl *cringe*. We hit the start button and she started up like nothing happened and it rode out.

Moral of the story is "BUY IT". I seen enough.

My area is crap. I searched ATV trader, 250 mile radius, under 2500. Found me 3 atvs, one of which is a brand new 70cc... Sigh The other 2 are 2wd.

I have always found it hard to find a decent 4x4 for under $3,000

Oh yea it's turn out to be a pain.

But I think I may just settle for this.

1994 Yamaha Kodiak 400. Don't know much else about it. Just the V*Plow and a Warn winch.

$1800

My other option is 2003 Kawaski Prairie 360. But it's an automatic (really want to avoid belt drive). Has a 60" plow. Dunno miles and he says it grinds when you put it in gear due to possible high idle. Good condition other wise. $2150. But I hear the 360 is underpowered

That King quad is still available. But 600lbs, 3 sub transmissions, and 300cc is starting to sound less appealing.

I've found others, but theres about 7*10 emails I sent I never gotten back on. My fave was a 1999 Magnum 500 for 1850 w/ plow, winch, hand gaurds, and cover.

Yea I see machines like that for that price quite a bit. I seen 07*08 800 efi's for 4800*5500. Seen 500ho's for 3000*5000 or less. There is a 06 Brute Force it a dealer I talked to, listed at 4999 would sell for 4000.

But the problem is, It's no more than 2k I'm after . I'll run through the oodle and 2 atv trader sights. Craigslist and ebay I beat to death. Been a member of ebay since 02 so hopefully I got it figured out by now :P

look for a old Honda fourtrax 300. These were made through the 90's and are like tanks. They will take a hell of a beatin and will run forever with normal maintenance. All time 4x4, reverse, and electric start. They are perfect for plowing snow as I have done so myself. Also Ranchers and foremans are good but are hard to find under 2k in my area anyways.
