GPS is the most accurate, ... and the only way a stock YFZ will hit 90 is when it is in the back of a pickup truck.

I'm sure when it was shipped here from japan it hit 500 in the Plane's cargo hold.

I have a YFZ, it isn't hitting 90 without some engine work and new gearing. Low to maybe mid 70's on a good day is more like it. If you can get video of a stock YFZ doing 90 on flat land under it's own power I would love to see it. I would love to see your 70mph stock Warrior/Raptor 350's as well. If those are out there I have a beef with Yamaha because I got ripped off.

Yup, thats why I said a stock YFZ needed to be in a pickup truck to hit 90 mph. We've owned two YFZs that we desert raced with. We even did top speed testing after gearing changes, cam changes, pipe changes, to see what results we were getting. A YFZ needs modded to get out of the 70s, and it isn't ever going to hit 90 in stock form.

OK now I know you are doing something wrong because a stock YFZ will only hit around 70 tops....

Top speed has NOTHING to do with engine, and EVERYTHING to do with gearing..... A YFZ is geared for motocross racing, and will simply run out of gearing before it hits 90mph....Sorry dude this is a FACT.....

Don't you read any ATV magazines? Have you EVER seen one of them report any of the 450s doing 90mph?

And your 350 doing 70 is only a fact to you because whatever you are measuring with is inaccurate.

The KTM 525 motorcyles may do 90 on a prved road but not a heavier and higher drag 4 wheeler. There not a ATV that can do 90 stock.

As I said it all depends on gearing.... A KTM 525 dual sport machine, meant to ride on the street will easily do 90..... My buddy has a dual sport Honda 600, and it will do about 90mph.

Any ATV engine could probably go 90 with the proper transmission and gearing.... if you hooked up some crazy 2-stage trans, with 10 gears....sure you could hit 90 but it would take a while to get there......

We had a guy come to my track that swore his modded 400ex would do 78mph....he paced it with his truck...etc...etc....

But when we strapped the GPS on his machine it was topping out at 67mph.....he was stunned and at first swore the GPS was wrong........ a few months later he showed up with a Trail-Tech speedo, and admitted the GPS was right, and that he generally tops out at about 65 in most conditions......

ATVs feel a lot faster than they really are.....Pacing one with a vehicle is totally inaccurate and cannot be trusted. Most automotive speedos are off by 3-5mph. A radar gun will work better, but they are still not accurate on an ATV or street bike profile within 5 MPH. Any good lawyer can get a street bike radar reading knocked down to a lesser charge because of this.

GPS is accurate, as long as calibration is set properly. There is still a chance for human error there too.

This debate has been around as long as ATVs have existed.... I remember arguing with a guy who swore his stock Banshee did 90mph......He took it to a local ATV drag and topped out at 72mph....still very fast.....but not 90.....

The KTM bikes that hit 90 plus mph have a six speed wide ratio gear box. The KTM quads have a 5 speed close ratio gear box, and only get into the 60s. Even my KTM 505 XC-F with its close ratio five speed gear box will only get into the 70s. It has enough power to pull three more gears once its topped out in fifth, so it isn't about power. Like you say, its about gearing, not power.

lol that was awesome. it will only hit 90 in the back of a truck stock. that may be true like i said i wasnt sure if had engine work and everyone also said next to a vehicle is the worst way and thats how i tested mine so ihave no problem admitting i was wrong. about the truck it wouldnt be mine my truck has no chance of hit 90 haha.
