Hi all this is probably a common problem but the longer my son rides his TaoTao 110 the slower the idel gets and the harder it gets to start. Giving it throat will get it started and if you stay on it while riding it runs fine. Do you think this is the inferior Chinese spark plug, Carb setting, or valve clearance? I’ve read on here where any of these can cause similar problems.

What I’ve done so far
I’ve been in the carb it’s clean as a whistle; I did have to adjust the float, it was set from the factory so high the bowl was overflowing.

I’ve also been playing around with plug gap it seems to be a bit better gapped at .030 in. While I’ve had the plug out it is reading lean so the next time I go into the carb I’m going to raise the main needle.

I have not messed with the valve yet

I just got a killer deal on a 2008 Jianshe Yamaha 400cc 4x4. $2600 shipped sounded like a good deal to me... I tightened every nut and bolt, already changed the oil with some 10 40 yamaha oil and put yamaha gear oil in the differentials. Any advise or experiences from anyone on the forums??? I also hear that these atv's being that they are actually really owned and assembled by a branch of Yamaha are actually interchangable with lots of Yamaha parts. I am pretty sure the quad resembles a 00-06 Yamaha Big Bear 400cc 4x4. The body actually looks more like a 2007+ Grizzly 400 though. I can't figure it out so any input would be appreciated. Thanks

My Daughters 110cc Quad wont start. It died after a day of riding, and figured it was a dirty carb...

My Daughters 110cc Quad wont start. It died after a day of riding, and figured it was a dirty carb which happened before. So I cleaned the carb, got it running, while adjusting the idle and air screw it died. spent 2 hours adjusting carb and trying to get it to start again. I was able to get it to run for like 3 seconds then it would die, this happened like 8 times. Seemed like a fuel problem so I cleaned the carb again blew out all jets with air. Now I'm getting nothing, just cranks.

I have Fuel (spark plug is wet, and smells of gas)
Checked for spark against head, seems fine
seems to have good compression
tried with air filter on and off
adjusted valves
checked all safety switches
fully charged battery
even tried starting fluid in the cylinder, and nothing.

What am I missing,
I thought AIR + FUEL + SPARK + COMPRESSION = START
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Pullin the carb this past Sunday gave me a chance to look things over pretty good after it’s had a couple of hours of run time. I was pleased to see that most of the nuts were nylock lock nuts and those that weren’t were castle nuts with cotter pins. I noticed there was no grease on any of the tie rod ends, a-arm pivots, or the swing arm pivot. Should there be and if so what should I use, lithium grease or axel grease?

Just wondering? My kids 110 starts hard when it has sat for a couple days in the cold. Is there a way to adjust the choke? Once I finally get it to start I have to flip the choke on and off for about a minute before it will Idle without assistance. When it's warm, no problem what so ever just hit the starter and it fires right up. I've adjusted the carb to where it seems to run best about 1 & 3/4 turns out. Is this just the nature of the beast?

Hey guys,

I'm hoping to get some help. My cousin purchased a brand new Chinese 250cc 'utility' quad off of eBay a year ago. It has it's limits, but for the price he paid, it gets him where he needs to go. It's not the smoothest, but for the money whatever. It does require a little TLC, double checking and tightening bolts, and using loctite where needed lol.

Anyway, we would like to change the oil, and I'm sure any 4 stroke 10W-40 oil will be fine, but we're not sure what to with the oil filter? Any suggestions or help on finding one for it? I know parts are limited, but I'm hoping we can find an oil filter since that is something you would service. Anybody have any resources? All I know about the bike is its an 08 'T-something' or 'MX' it has the small circle headlights, like the yamaha grizzly bikes.

Any help would be appreciated. We have the owner's book but it doesn't mention anything of this. It's quite vague, and pretty poorly translated.

Thanks!

*edit* Here's a pic, it's the same exact bike except without a huge lift and all the auxiliary lights lol
