Heres the low down i took this engine out of a 86 atc 185. It had not been run in about 5 years, but the guy said it ran good at that time. I put it (along with the wiring and electronics) into this BSR that i build. It will fire up and idle all day long (seriously ive had it idleing for about 2 hours) but as soon as you try to ride it the thing spits and sputters like its running out of gas. I dont belive that is the case as playing with the choke does not change anything. Also i have tried a few diffent fuel tanks to make sure that was not it, and the same thing with all of them. (All the tanks are vented.) so my question is......is there a known failure on these things for symptoms such as mine? Somthing that would let it idle fine but not run correctly under load? Weak coil mabye? Also i have cleaned the carb. i havent checked for spark becuse it happens so quick and it will always start right back up.

As many have read I finally got some ITP Mudlite XTRs for the X2. I finally got this tire situation...

As many have read I finally got some ITP Mudlite XTRs for the X2. I finally got this tire situation mostly straightened out. The rears were sticking out to far because the ITP Delta Steel rims stuck out 2 inches extra on each side. Can you say 52" wide quad? So, I spray painted the stock rims a nice black and took them over to a local tire store to have the old tires taken off the new rims and put on the stockers. The guy had told me $70 for doing the tires and remounting them with disposal. I went there and ended up using their floor jack to jack up each side and take off the wheels/tires. They aren't allowed to bring ATVs into their shop due to liability issues. The manager said the kid who does the ATV tires would be back after a delivery. He got back, did all the work, put new stems in both the new and old rims, and helped me get them back on the quad. I asked him, "How much?" He said, "Nothing." He insisted, so I forced $10 on him. I got it home and noticed that the right front was just slightly rubbing the end of the tie rod. After a lot of thinking I remembered people having the same situation, so I got some hardened washers to space out the right side a bit and now have a little over an 1/8th inch of space on both sides. Do you all think this will be enough? I parked with the rear uphill and most the pressure on the tire that was barely rubbing and it seemed like it still had about an 1/8th" space.

So, this is my first post here & I've spent a little time searching before asking the question. As well, I'm very familiar with mechanical stuff as I have had an old blazer for 15 years that I know pretty much inside & out, so I understand most about how, what & why about engines & such.

To the point. I just bought 3 2007 hawkeyes, (2 4x4's & 1 4x2) & the 4x4's work great! Have had them out the past two weekends & no issues at all. (smoking deal BTW, 7500 for all 3 with a 4 space trailer) :lmao:

Buuuuuuuuuttttttt, the 4x2 has no spark. I have fuel, but no fire. I've checked the connection of the coil, & replaced the sparkplug. No dice.

Short of tracing down every wire & connection, I think I need a little help.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi everyone

I'm new here, and i'm looking for an ATV and the scrambler seem to fit the bill. With my budget, i'm looking the 90's model. I want to know what are the difference between different years, mainly for the 400. I know that the internet is pretty efficient to spread horrors story, so I'd like to know if the reliability issue are really that bad. I'm soon to be 28, i've had bike, trike, sled, i'm mechanically inclined and I know how to take care of an offroad vehicle (especially 2 stroke and CVT)

The 400 is appealing to me because with reasonable tweeking, it can get powerful enough to be enjoyable.
