Default BMAC and 1st Responders Rescue Practice Drill

Birdseye Mountain ATV Club and the Castleton 1st Responders participated in a mountain rescue practice drill on Birdseye Mountain in Castleton/Ira, Vt. last Sunday March 22.

The volunteer 1st Responders need 48 hours of hands on training per year to maintain their certification.

Joining with Birdseye Mountain ATV Club enabled both organizations to get valuable training experience in a mountain rescue situation.

Both organizations plan to jointly train together in a variety of rescue scenarios.

It was a cold day and of course it started to snow at the begining of the practice, but the Field Chief said it didn't matter, they had to handle whatever weather that would be happening at the time of a true rescue.

Our BMAC trail patrol and other members provided the 1st Responders with 2 rescue situations on the lower levels of the mountain. We provided the atv transportation to get them to the "patient" and assisted them with the rescues.

All that participated learned alot and we've agreed to stage at least 2 more "rescues" in the next few months with at least one envolving a helicopter.

I've posted a few pictures at our blog.
