Default Transmission Issue

I picked a red ATV up for nothing. I was going to upload a pic but I guess you can't here. I was told it has a 125 cc engine. Also, I was told it had Forward, Neutral and Reverse but I can't seem to get it out of Forward. If I hold the shifter down (rear lever) it will be in reverse but once I let it up, it's in Forward. Any help would be appreciated.

Post pictures in your album, you need a certain amount of posts before you can post pictures in threads.

Id guess its a worn or bent shift fork that wont fully engage reverse..

you need to pull the clutcj cover and take a look.. you may also need to remove the clutch to see all of the shift fork and the drum it rotates.

I am not sure there is a clutch with this ATV. It appears the shifter is direct into the engine. There are only brake handles on the handle bars. I uploaded another pick in my album that may show it a little better. I am afraid I need to take the engine off of the frame and open her up. Then I am not sure if I can get a part if it needs it as I don't really know what model I have.

The clutch assembly is inside the engine, under the cover on the right hand side of the engine (while your sitting on the quad.) its a automatic clutch so there is no clutch lever on the handlebar..

You can usually remove the cover while the engine is in the frame.

Great. Is it repairable without pulling the engine and tearing her apart?

Thanks for responding!

You will have to take apart the side of the engine but the cases wont need to be split..

Drain the oil before you remove the side case.

Ok. Got the side cover off. Does the clutch spin off, clockwise or counter clockwise? Or is there something I am missing?
