Kids quad starting/starter issue.
Hi Guys,
I tried searching the issue I have without much luck, so hopefully if I explain what is occuring you can help.
My daughter was riding the 50cc atv which was running fine and it stopped. She and I then tried to restart it but had no power to the starter. Checked fuse and it was fine. Now 1 month later I finally have time to try and figure out the issue and here is what I find. I turn key on, press brake down and hit the ignition to hear a buzzing. I pull plastics off and find the solenoid clicking/buzzing everytime I hit the start button. I try jumping the solenoid and nothing, no clicking/buzzing and still nothing at the starter. I spent 2hrs looking at this with a friend and we are at a loss. What am I missing? What do I need to check next?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

+1 to reaper I would buy a good 4Y battery @ a batteries plus or somewhere that has a decent product. Restart the thing and check the charging system, don't be alarmed yet the little guys tend to shut em off and start em so much and so often without letting em run long enough to charge up the battery to much and the cheap chinese battery thats in it is not that good to begin with.

The other thing for you to try based on what I'm reading is this:
Remove the starter and hook it up to a 12V supply. If it spins freely, go back to the solenoid / battery.
If the starting motor is seized or faulted you can/will still get the chatter in the solenoid as if you have a bad battery.

Hi guys, thanks for the help! After hooking up jumper cables, the started tried to turn and we noticed a bit of smoke. We tried again and found a bad wire which when replaced the starter turned and the 4wheeler fired right up. Nice quick easy fix and now my daughters can ride again once this snow melts!
