Hi,
I purchased a "fixer" redcat 150 mpx. The elect choke doesnt seem to work. I can get it running after priming with gas. Bought and installed
a new carb. yesterday. It has the same problem, runs fine after priming,
but won't start. I'm not sure if the vacuum lines are hooked up correctly.
There are 2 connections one on either side of intake pipe. New carb only
seems to need one? Help!
KTM Patrol Former Chinese POW! Need a part machined or customized? Manual Mill & Lathe, CNC Mill, Cad/Cam. Need or want something engraved? Want something but not sure what?
Are you sure its the choke not working? Valves out of adjustment will cause hard starting.. Any way to look inside the carb while your trying to start it? You should be able to see if the choke valve is open or closed...
Thanks for the reply. There is no seperate choke valve. Just the throttle valve and main slide valve with needle which is vacuum
controlled. I dont think it is valves since I can also get it to fire
if I hook the left side vacuum line to the intake pipe fitting. It will
start then but immediately dies. I determined this temporairly raises
the slide to allow fuel to flow. The engine will not continue to run with
this tube connected. Also it starts and runs fine after engine is warm
no priming required. This is the first carb I have ever worked on with an
elect. choke. The carb is a Ke-Hin (spelling) japanese carb. I'm
pretty sure I need to connect the vacuum lines differently?

Is it really a Japanese Keihin? That would be a good thing....not too sure what side the line go to, but if you had 2 lines and now only have 1.. You need to plug 1 of the lines/fittings on the manifold.
On my 150cc quad I don't have a Keihin carb but I do have an electric choke (bystarter valve) that enrichens the gas mixture when cold, compared to starving it of air as with a standard choke. Does this sound like your carb?
If so, I think these normally fail in the cold position - i.e. the quad starts fine then runs terrible when warm. If you unbolt the bystarter valve it runs rich, and you can switch to the lean mode by plugging the vacuum hole with your finger. If you take it apart don't lose that little gasket between the bystarter valve and the carb.
I also have only one vauum line from the intake manifold.
Yes this sounds like my carb. I can never get it to run rich is the problem. I am using a brand new carb now, same prob. Hey, I grew
up in Patterson, not far from you.

Have the same prob with a mine... Found out if I fold the choke lever down for the first minute and not let it move it run well.. Just my 2 cents... Kazuma 110..
