I have been using that kind of oil in my air cooled 4 strokes for decades...No slipping or burnt clutches and no oil related engine damage in all that time..I dont think a air cooled 4 stroke puts enough stress on any of the engine parts for it to matter..
Now in a High Performance water cooled 4 stroke I would use something better...My KTM engine gets Amsoil 10wt-40 motorcycle oil.

Paw,
Im pretty sure we are talking 4 stroke ATVs here but there are Chinese made 70cc 2 stroke ATVs out there.....
If its 4 stroke in all honestly you should be fine with
10w30
10w40
15w40
In reality theres not enough difference between the three weights to made a difference, especially in something like a childs ATV.
Ive use Valvoline ATV oil 10w40 in my sons China wheeler as well as Rotella T 15w40 - both worked excellent. The Valvoline ATV oil was purchased at NAPA and cost me about $5 a quart. The Rotella T is a heavy duty oil used primarily in diesel applications, purchased at WalMart for $11 a gallon.
As long as its in one of the above weights your good to go. I still stick by my recommendation of using oil that is NON energy conserving. Most 10w30 car oil IS energy conserving while most 10w40 IS NOT - so your best bet when looking is to check out the 10w40 weight oils. Motorcycle specific oils will be find as well but your likely going to spend $5+ a quart. In something like a wee wheeler I would much rather use a cheaper oil and change it more often as there is a lack of filter.
Ive purchased the Mobil equivalent of Rotella T, there HD oil is called DelVac super cheap at OReillys. They had a buy one get one free special at $11 a gallon....effectively making the oil $5.50 a GALLON.....or a $1.37 a quart.....thats CHEAP. Its also darn good oil.
