Chinese Quad Starter Problem

Chinese Quad Starter Problem
- My son's quad just clicks when trying to start.
- Battery has 12+ volts.
- Solenoid checks out.
- Sometimes it seems like there is a drop in voltage between solenoid and starter, but I think that's because of the acrobatics that I'm doing while trying to hold wires and start it.
- I took the starter out and jumped it directly from the battery and it spun freely.
- I put it back in and nothing maybe a hum?
- I took out the plug.
- I don't think it's seized, but I'm gonna check that when I get off here just to be sure.

Quad starter magnets WTF?
Sorry, I didn't get back on but like the words of Rom Popell, I set it and forgot it!!! lol I figured I'd just get a new starter and solenoid, because they're so cheap, But dipshit me, went to take the adapter plate off the starer and took off the cover to the magnets!!! So I now I have to figure out how to get the starter motor back together and the magnets back in with my fat fingers!!! I think I'm going to go get some beer before I even attempt this...

Starter together, but.....
OK calmed down drank two beers and got the brushes back in the starter
I jump the starter and it spins freely and runs good. I put it in the engine and nothing? I jumped from battery to starter while in the quad and nothing? Took the magneto cover off and the chain to the crank spins easily? I'm going to drink a couple more beers and look at it agian tomorrow......

Hey chipstal if you put it back into the engine and still hear it spinning freely or it's clicking it means the chain that connects to the starter and fly wheel is messed up. Take off the left crankcase cover(their should be 4 bolts) then take that off but beware that's where the magneto is. Then you can take a socket and spin the flywheel manually make sure the chain is on and that if it is on and it clicking it might mean the chain got snagged on something. That happened to me when one of the spacers feel out of my crankcase and I had to make a new one so the chain could move freely.
Best of luck, Ratman

Ratman Rocks
I figured it out already, but, You were right. I took off the left side case and the chain was binding. I have an extra starter and solenoid and you know sooner or later I'll need them. Ironically I have to put one of them back together because the brushes fell out when I was taking off the adapter plate.
