Unhappy 6 gear, or reverse in a ds650?

My Tranny 1st gear is out, it looks like $600 just for Labor alone plus parts.

Can I get a 6th gear add ????

How about reverse gear ?????

I just would like too know, that if I'm spending my money on the DS720 transmission

What would I need to bullet proof it ????

How much is the diffrents in the stock rebuild kitt ????

oppose to a Bullet proof Tranny ?????

Can some one please help me it's riding season and it don't look good right now.

Sorry to hear about your problems .... I can try to help.

How did you determine your 1st gear is "out" ?

6th gear & reverse ... not impossible (as nothing is), but HIGHLY improbable - has never been done & would cost you more than 20 brand new transmissions.

"Bullet Proofing" a transmission ... hmm ... something can always break, especially with the shift fork design of these bikes. We have one of the industries best building these trannys & there is still things that can & do go wrong.

What is your bike doing ?

From my experience, with a trail machine, even beating the crap out of it, the most common issue that arises is bent forks.

If/when you get into it, besure you install the "revised/improved" forks from the more recent production years.

The only real way to have a stronger transmission is to either have complete custom internals made or to have a fresh transmission WPC treated. WPC Treatment - What is WPC?

You can really make the DS tranny a much better tranny if you are going to rebuild it.

First there was an update on the shift forks - I think it was after 2003, so make sure you get the later desing.

The best thing to do if you have it apart is send the gears to Eric at OMW Racing. He will reverse cut the gears which makes the tranny shift so smooth after and will will never miss a gear or get stuck between 2 gears either.

I did my tranny about 3 years ago and have not had a lick of problems since.
