Cynick gave me a gas cap off a Predator 500 that fit perfect and had a breather, I just pinched off the stock tubes.

Hello, fellas.... I see before I do anything else to my bike, I'm coming to you guy for Question's, and Information.

I own a 2000 Ds 650, and I too am going through some stopping, and going situation. I just found out that my Stator pick up assembaley is shorting out.

I thought It was my CDI box, and before that I thought it was a cylinder, so I upgraded to a 720cc 105mm and It was still cutting out on me. thats how I figured it was in the stator.

And what's bad is Can-am, is on back order untill the 18th of the month

Thanks for your input BIG. I thought my problem was solved until the other day and she started to cut out again. I ordered a gas cap off eBay as a last ditch effort to resolve my problem before spend a lot of money on a stator, but if that is not it I don’t have much of a choice. (Fingers are crossed)

To get to the screen you must remove the petcock, two bolts, no hassle. There should be to pickups of different height each with its own screen.
Check that the choke is all the way in. The stock Mikunis can develop sticky choke rods.

Thanks I will pull the petcock today, but check this out for the past few days upon starting my quad
A. it’s getting harder to start.
B. for the first 10min or so it sounds like its not firing on all cylinders but only for the first 10min or so and if you try to give it gas within that time it will kill the motor .
C. After it gets going it starts to sound better like it’s firing on all cylinders. Upon riding for an hour or so she runs well, but from time to time she will cutout and die and at the point I will sit for 3 to 5min she fires backup and off I go.
D. (WTF) I’m lost.

B. Sounds like a plugged jet in the carburetor. Have you removed the carb and cleaned the jets?.

Ya had a buddy do it twice, but you never know. I think I'm going to pull it off myself today. Wish me luck... I guess you could say I am Menchanically Challenged... Any tips for me aside from throwing my tools across the street and lighting on fire..Who knows I might even be having a firesale on a 2000 DS-650.
