For what its worth I ran 11.5:1, HR3 cams, and Vortex CDI on crap California oxygenated 91 octane for two years without any signs of detonation.

For what its worth: It's worth alot. That is similar to the set up I could run and I'm glad to hear others are running it safe. Can I assume you are duning? I think that is harder than anything on a motor. If I could find a plug it is a no brainer to try it. Without the plug it is a pain. I never have time to ride much less tune and experement. Now I'm back to thinking of trying it anyway. You get that HP itch every so often. Even if it is one or two. Damn, I hate performance!

Well, I put in the cams, tm45 carb and the cdi. When I started it in the shop, the throttle response was very pleasing. After messing with throttle pulley clearance, I got to drive it. I have to say I am not impressed. Seat of the pants I didn't feel any more exceleration. A few sections of the track I can measure acceleration. For example, one particular jump, I have to come out of the corner perfect to clear a jump. I still have to come out perfect or I test out the skid plate. Now this is obviously bottom and mid. I haven't had it to fifth yet. Maybe that is where she will shine. As for no rev limiter; I'm still shifting at 8500 ish. I had to look to see if the rpms climed up but no. It don't seem to need to rev higher. When it was a 650, I could see how you would want a higher rev limiter. I was on it all the time. I won't say yay or nay until I have a chance to streach its legs down a straight against another quad.

So you went from stock cams, carb, and CDI on a 730 to Woods cams, TM45, and CDI and didn't seem to pick up much? WHich Woods cams did you go with? Just the carb alone should have made a big difference on a big bore over stock carb. Is your intake ported? What jets/tuning have you done on the TM45? Have you done a plug check? You say you are still shifting at 8500RPM but the stock rev limit is 7900 RPM??? So you have gained at least 600 RPM of over rev

I have A-2 Cams. My intake is ported with a 45mm opening. For jetting I have 155 main, 42.5 pilot, 80fy2-97 needle on the middle clip. I'm not sure where the main is at because I don't have a long enough area to do a good plug check. The needle looks good. The throttle is crisp. That is much better than the stock carb. The main could be way out and that is hurting me.

I did gain RPMs like you said. I think I was expecting too much. Like, if I wasn't paying attention I would be over 10k. That is not the case.

I am using the airbox with holes in the lid. I also still have the stock exhaust with an end cap.

I really thought the carb would make the 730 happy. It might be but I cannot feel it. I'll keep messing with it and researching. The stuff has to work. So many fast quads are running these parts.

Your stock exhaust w/end cap is what is really limiting your over rev capabilities. Look to a full exhaust (CT or Ron Woods) and it will be much happier up top.

I do have a woods exhaust to put on. It looks like crap compared to the factory stainless but I will try it. It also has a disk type silencer. It was on a 650. How many disks do I need on my big bore?

halfliter whats up! that exhaust is not a woods its a full ct exhaust! i would try 13-15 discs with your 730 that should let it breath alot better. also {this may be a stupid question} that carb was setup for a 650 so if you have not changed jets yet your gonna be way lean.add the exhaust in and this could be most of your problem. hope this helps some. btw the ct exhaust deff, was a mid to upper rpm pipe. and elliot over at woods said if ya gotta run a sparky thats the one too run!
