I just installed the keihin 450r carb on my ds, WOW!!! What a difference! Everything went fairly easy, you have to modify your throttle cable a little, i also trimmed a little of metal off of the frame,where the fuel tank bolts down at, just to get the cable to line up a little better. Im running a 175 main jet, 50 pilot, needle on the 4th clip got me right on. Ive noticed a gain through the whole power band, alot more low end, revs quicker, all around out performs the stocker! are you running with the ari box lid on or off? and if memory serves me correct is that a pumper carb, i thought i read some where that you disconect the pump, is that true?

Sparky, thanks for the props. You might want to try the HRC needle also, since it is a richer taper. This is the "Poor man's upgrade" as I call it. I knew it would work well on the DS. You gotta love the enhanced throttle response throughout the powerband! And top end is there too! Go to servicehonda.com part number is 16100-HP1-672.

 

hmmm 170 is great for a brand new carb... What kind of jets does this take? Does it adjust same as the stocker? (is it easy to open up/get at jets/needle?)

I wonder how this compares to a used tm45... HMMM

*just re-read your original post, I see this is the stocker on the 450r, which means they can probably be found used as well.* Ahh, I forgot you were in oregon, I am from dekalb, we still need to get together and ride sometime.

 

What do you have to do to the cable to make it work ?

 

the stock carb and the Kehein off the 450r are the same size, and they both have a butterfly in the throat albeit for different reasons. This does make it questionable as to whether or not one can outflow the other for any significant peak hp increase, and only a dyno will ever be able to tell by fine tuning both same day same dyno on same bike.

But I do not doubt the low end response and better wheely popping ability thru to the midrange would likely be better, due to the accelerator pump. Pumpers rock. In my opinion a carb like this otta come on the DS's from factory.

 

so are you guys running a airbox or not. i have one of these carbs. i just need to figure out a intake and then i can dump my fcrs on my raptor.

 

I am shocked that a 42mm carb works (it is too small that what every body said about my Edelbrock) [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif[/img] At least this setup does not cost as much.

 

would a stock 450r cable be long enough so you could use the 450r thumb throttle so there would be no moding the stock ds stuff just replacement.
