No difference on a 09-2010 on the 500s,heck I doubt a 04 or 2010 have any differences.

I would agree that the Foreman is probably not the machine for him....that is why I refered to is as more of a work quad, rather than a recreational quad. I would however, never get the clumsy Polaris either!

In 1500 miles of mixed hard New England water, mud, rocks, ice, snow, etc. we've never had a wet belt in our group of 5 Polaris 500s. 3 Sportsmans, 1 ATP, and 1 Sportsman X2. I've gone through deep enough that I've had my feet up on the front rack and gotten the back of my thighs wet with eye opening 33 degree water. I've only seen one Polaris broken down in my years of driving and it was because the guy driving it saw a moose and did not notice the log in the trail that went up and under and ripped his throttle cable apart among other things. I towed him 5 miles out of rough country and down to his trailer with my X2.

The recoil should be drained and cleaned. It should be sealed better than that. It sounds like the handle wasn't pushed down tight on the recoil housing.

I had enough water in mine that a minnow could swim in it. I Cleaned it out and silicon the pull handle in place no water is ever getting back in again. I have 350 hr on it now.

If its a 05 you better check if it was involved in the ECM recall. Here is a link. Polaris Expands ATV Recall
