If you like sporty riding and don't plan on doing any hardcore racing, it can't be beat. Its getting rave reviews. The best sport trail machine.

Don't know anyone with an 09, but my Z was excellent everywhere except in the really tight slow stiff. It likes to rev a little (but nothing like the 450's), so it was a bit of a pain during slow technical riding, because of the clutch slipping that was necessary.

If you don't ride tight semi-technical stuff all the time (400EX country), go for it and then come back and write a review for us!

The 2009 z400 is an improved version of what was already a great all-around ATV..... Now with fuel injection and some slight chassis mods it might be the best play/trail rider out there. Its not a 450, but it is as close as you can get without dealing with the maintenance of the 450s. And it can hold its own against the big bores too.

You cannot really go wrong with the z400......

+1 on what SS97 said, the 09 Z is a great machine. Put a yoshimura big-bore kit in there, and you have (essentially) got yourself a 450cc "XC" version of the LT-R450.

Good to see another person from indiana on here. The z400 in some parts of the mx circuit is still used. They are very capable machines. For what you will be doing it should be just fine. And it can take tons of abuse.
