Default 250R vs 350X

Hey i just got my hands on an 85 350X, some lady had sitting in her barn for cheap, said the motor was rebuild a couple yrs ago. I've driven the 250R before and was just wondering what to expect in comparison of the two. I've heard the 350 can be killer to start. Anybody got any mod pointers i should look into to get best performance out of it?

Welcome to the forum, those are two totally different bikes I know I have both the 250r makes it's power up in the power band wheras the 350x is a torque monster. Think of it as the 250r for all out speed and the 350x as a great trail trike no need to work the clutch like the R on the trail. They deliver power 2 different ways. I personally use my 350x as a daily rider and my R when I want to show up a banshee or two. As far as starting the x I got tired of swollen ankles from the kickback even with a brand new decompression cable set to specs. so I got a Goki elec. start kit, best 300.00 I ever spent now instead of being gun shy when trying I just hit a button and go. Performance wise all I have is a Cobra full exhaust, upped the jetting and no airbox lid and that's enough for me. One mod I heard about that I may do in the future is to put a 400ex carb. on it. It's suppose to give better throttle response.

Default i have both as well

I have 4 250r and 1 350x . He is right 350x is for torque and 250 is all about speed. To make motor better on 350x I recommend a new cam and exhaust. And kick start ya I agree if going to ride a lot get electric start. Either one of yall In Texas?

if you don't want to crack the engine open your mods are some what limited .. air cleaner, exhaust pipe, sprockets ... but your going to need those any ways if you open it up and add a cam (powroll) big bore/stroker (l.a. Sleave) to get more power

Discountatv is a good place to buy from you won't be disappointed. About the carb. The only thing I really know is to get the accelearator pump 400ex one don't know what year they started but I do know a 2005 400ex is an accelerator pump one. It is suppose to stop the cold starting issue some 350xs have along with alot better design and crisper throttle response.

I have a 400ex carb on my 350x . It works great . Its a little hard to get the 350x carb boot on the 400ex carb . You can stick the end of the carb boot in boiling water to soften it up and then stick it over the carb . Or you can do like I did and just use a dremel tool to remove a little material from the inside of the boot . I had a 350x 15yrs ago and loved it . In stock form they will run around 70mph and the 250r depending on the year will run 80 mph . That according to the Honda website .good luck with the 350x
