1983 Yamaha YTM 200e first gear slipping/grinding
Hello,
I have a 1983 Yamaha YTM 200e. When the engine is running and transmission is in neutral, there is a knocking within the transmission (i think its there). When the bike is in first gear, it will either slip out of gear and grind or lock up completely (drive shaft will not turn). The bike drives fine in all other gears, no noises what so ever.
I had the clutch casing off and everything seems in order there. I am pretty sure the clutch has been adjusted to the correct tension using the adjuster bolt on the outer casing.
What should I be looking for to trouble shoot this issue? The bike is new to me (Lower engine was in parts on clutch side). Do you think my issue is with the clutch side, or on the pull start side (based on first gear slipping)? I'd rather not take the drive shaft apart if I do not have to.
Thanks for your time!
