How can u tell if it has a 300 kit?? (250r 84')

Default How can u tell if it has a 300 kit?? (250r 84')
I just purchased a 1984 250R and the guy said he can't tell if it has a 300 kit on it?? He is 55 and not into the whole atc thing. Also 3rd gear is out, should I just buy a whole new assembly?? Thanks
