blown motor in triz
hey
tommorrow is the day! last weekend i blew something in the motor on my 85 triz and tommorrow iam going to pull the motor and see what went wrong. i already sent the really pitted head out to get redone. i am going to be rebuilding the motor saving what is good and replace what is bad or on its way out. what else should i look for while im in there? i plan on getting new reeds by boysen, newpiston and rings n of course gaskets. what else should i look for and check? what bearings are in there? im thinking about boring 20 over how much more power does this provide? what other tips or ideas should i know? any other advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

i would put new clutch plates in it and i would remove the thermostat and throw it away and not put another one in it,you dont need it at all and they can fail and ruin your motor.
if i had a few hundered bucks i would send the jug off to be ported and have them recomend me what jets to use in my carb to start with tell them what other mods are done, pipe, reeds ect. and buy teh piston from them or definately send them my new one so they can do the ring gap and do whatever they need to to the piston and make sure everything is rite.
tri Z's are the tamest of the 250's get that thing ported and it will be a new bike.
if you dont have the extra money just see if you can hone the scratches out of the cylinder and slap a new piston in it, dump some diesel doun in the crank case and slosh it all around a few time and dump it out and blow it all out with a air hose to clean out piston chunks if you have to. that is if you are going cheap and are not spliting the case.
