The Tri-Z is like any other two stroke... Just a little harder to find parts for...
I'd check eBay for a pipe... I'm not sure of the best manufacturer, DG was the last one producing Tri-Z exhaust, but I believe stopped recently.
I'm sure it could use a top-end if it feels weak. Clean up the ports inside the cylinder, have it bored enough to clean up and put in a new piston. That will have it performing as good as or better than new... Then start looking for a suitable carb (we use 38 & 39 mm units on our 250R's), replacement reeds, and a decent performance pipe...
It would respond the best to an entire performance rebuild, but don't forget to pay attention to all the normal wear items... after all it is 20+ years old now...

I have the same bike. well I have the 85 1/2 the black and red one. Well if its bone stock I would say get it resleeved. LA sleeves. Mine still has the stock carb and its fine. I have the stock header pipe as well, but DG does still sell them for the Z. They have two. One is called the National and one is called the Extreme. about 15 bucks in price difference. You can get the DG silencer there as well. its 92 bucks. I ordered some new clutch plates from bikebandit.com. So I will give you these places to look for parts.
BikeBandit.com- they have a lot of parts for the Z
DG.com- exhaust
Try ebay as well. for fenders some misc. parts too.
