Default 83 honda 200e big red

Hi im chris i bought an 83 200e big red ran ok. I just put a moose rebuild kit in the carb, new dg exhaust, all new amc rims, mudlite at tires. Runs awsome now, but for some odd reason 3rd gear is not even there. I pulled the right side cover off, and the bracket under the clutch pack that the clutch bar from the shifter sits in seems like maybe it came off a different machine. i have ALOT of play. i lifted the rear end up and went through all the gears and there is nothing in 3rd just like Neutral. Its seems strange on a semi auto that 3rd gear could be out like that. I wanted to know if there are gears on a threaded shaft or are there pins in there? How hard is it to replace gears on a 200e , and if there are and other parts that could be used from another machine? Is there anone that sells any more performance upgrades for the 200e i know its not a race machine but i only paid 150 bucks for it, would like to make it a little faster.

Chris
I've had a 1982 honda ATC 200E, and I sold it because it needed tranny work. If its like neutral it usually means its gone and needs replace. You will have to split the case, the gears I beleive are on a splined shaft and while your in their splitting the case I beleive the sprocket is inclosed if I remember correctly and is a real pain to get at so if it looks like its getting down, do yourself the biggest favor now and replace it.

Hope this helps

thanks for the info. i planned on putting new chain and sprokets on cause the rear one the teeth are bending forward. i did some research i found that alot of the gears on the trikes are interchangable. im having a hell of a time freeing up my forks though. the guy left it sitting outside for 2 years. i got them to move but not much i have them in a 50 gallon drum filled with oil and parts cleaner i will probably leave them in there for a week or so.
