250SX clutch question
I'm working on my newly acquired 250SX. Finally got it running, but there seems to be a problem with the clutch. It seems to just jump into gear, and when shifting, it doesn't seem to dissengage. Would this be a cent. clutch issue, or a manual clutch issue? Or would it be the lifter?

Do you mean that when you shift, and hold the shift lever completely up, you are not in neutral but instead in first? If so, my 250SX does the same thing. I believe what is happening is that the clutch plates are sticking instead of disengaging. Try holding the shift lever up, grab the rear brake hard, and bump the throttle several times. This will (hopefully) break the clutch plates loose and move your bike into neutral. It works for mine. My clutch then works properly until I leave it sitting up for several weeks.
I'm not sure what the proper fix for this is, but it most likely involves new clutch plates. Mine have never been changed. As long as bumping them loose works, I don't plan to either.

It's more a matter of when you are running along, and accelerating...thus it revs up, when you let up on the throttle to decrease the rpm's in between shifts...well, even with the decrease in rpm's, the trike still seems to just slam into gear..as if something is not dissengaging. I'm trying to figure out if it's the manual clutch or the centrifugal clutch. I'm hoping it's just worn discs.

I still think you may have the same problem I have. Try this - with the bike in neutral, shift up into first gear and hold the shift lever completely up. You should still be in "neutral" as the clutch should have disengaged the gears for the shift. Hit the throttle. Does the bike move? If so, your clutch plates are sticking. If not, you've got a different problem than I do.
If this is the problem, then hit the gas with the brake locked and with the shift lever completely up. It will eventually break the plates free and return the bike to "neutral."
