My guess would be that you might be running too rich and fouling out your plugs.

You could try to put it at the top and see if it runs anybetter or longer but i wouldnt run it extreamly hard cause running it lean could hurt the valves. If it runs good and doesnt foul your plug anymore i would say your good to go.

How did you get it to quit smoking anyways???

What color was the smoke???

well since the smoke is blue that means your burning oil. thats what is fouling your plug out. move the clip back to where it was. Sence you just got it, it probibly smoked before the valve broke if you bore it out like OLDKAWI said it will probibly stop fowling out your plug. or hone it out and get new rings. that should stop the fowling.

have worked on many old atc's in the shop. even after cleaning the carb and replacing all internal parts, some machines would still foul plugs. on a couple of machines we replaced the carb w/ a brand new one and had no plug fouling since. not exactly sure whats wrong w/ old carb but a new carb worked. this won't help you though if you are burning oil like your describing but just something we found that worked on a strong motor.
