Question 1997 Arctic Cat Bearcat 454 Brake Problem

I recently purchased a 1997 Arctic Cat Bearcat 454 model which was not working at the time. Once i got it up and running I ran into an issue with the brakes. If it is on any kind of an incline the brakes do not work at all and will only barely stop you on level ground.

I took the 454 to 3 different Arctic Cat dealers in the area. After a couple of attempts to fix it, they said that this model (1996-1998) has known problems with the brakes and there is nothing they can do about it.

I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or you have ever heard of the 454 having brake problems. Maybe they are just trying to avoid liability for failing to fix the brakes?

Thanks,
J

replace the brake pads, when they are worn out the brakes will not work.check the back one first, it is mechanical put the new pads on there first.adjust the cable out till it locks up the brake and back it off till you can push the atv freely.than check it when riding.the back brake won't stop the atv as quickly as the dual fron brakes.if that doesn't work you may need new calipers,as they wear down also i replaced mine when they has 3,000 miles on them, hope that helps. The dealers
