Default 2001 arctic 250 4x4

i have a 2001 arctic 250 4x4 that i bought recently. im rather new to the atv world where this is my first quad ever. so i have been doing work to it ive completely cleaned the carb the jets were clogged really bad. i replaced the starter fuel lines among a few other things. but for some reason the wheeler is idling very high ive tried using the idle adjustment screw but it does nothing. i saw in a forum sometimes it can take a minute to adjust so i was very patiently and no matter which way i turn the screw it does not affect the idling in any way. i have a 5 year son that is dying to be able to ride it but i slams into gear due to the over idling issue so i do not want to damage the tranny or anything else. any help or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Check the throttle cable adjustment, might be too tight. You want a small amount of play in the throttle.

Once you get that sorted out, there is a governor screw on the thumb throttle. I suspect that even a 250 AC is too fast for most 5 year olds. Never ridden one, but my AC 400 tops out just under 60 mph! You should check the gas tank, flush it out if needed, put inline gas filter to keep the crud from getting back in. ATV's tend to get used like rented mules, haha.

Hopfully your 5 year old is not riding that by himself. That is to heavy of a machine for a child no matter what their skill level is. Are you positive your turning the idle screw and not the air/fuel mixture screw that does very little for idle

my son doesnt ride alone he just likes to sit in my lap while i drive we dont go crazy riding together just in open fields on our property. so i flushed the gas tank and put an inline fuel filter in because a friend said it would be a good idea. there is an idle cable that goes into the carb but when you turn that it does nothing to fix the issue. so you were talking about checking the throttle cable up on the handle bars? cause i do feel like the throttle it self is very easy to move with your thumb. considering i do not have much experience i felt like i have done a good job even getting it running. i did not think it would even run i paid 200 for it from a co worker and it came with a plow and a bunch of other goodies. so i thought it was the perfect opportunity for me to get into the atv fun.

When your checking the throttle cable their should be some slight moment before its starts opening up the slide on the carb.. Slack in the cable.. Also check to make sure you have the slide in the right way its easy to get them 180 degrees off and they will hang up on the guide and not go all the way down

$200 was a heck of a deal! I'm with zrock, that's too big of a machine for a 5 year old. When I was 5, my dad taught me to drive a WW2 Dodge WC (Power Wagon) . No power steering and I had to stand up to put all my weight on the clutch to shift. Grew up on a farm. I still hate cows!
