Default Starting problem... Starter?

My 2004 500 has been sitting a few months. Went to start it and all I hear is clicking from the starter. Pull start is fine. Is it the starter? If the battery was weak could the same happen?

my moneys on the battery. check the water levels, charge and if that doesn't take care of it, you will probably need a new battery. my '04 just actually did this to me last week after sitting about a month. it starts easy enough with the rope, but I will be getting a fresh battery for the ice fishing season.

I would guess bad battery and or starter selenoid. If the battery is close to 3 years old get a new one.

Don't need the one froma dealer just take the measurements off the old one and note the position of the +/- terminals to how the battery sits in its box. Go to Walmart and find the battery that matches (or as close as you can get) to the size. I think they are like $40 or something and they are about $100 from the dealer.

Charge up the new battery, trickle charge over night, give it a try. If it still does it check the starter selenoid.
