2000 ac 500 auto backfiring
hey all i have a 2000 ac 500 auto that i inherited from my grandpa
been using it to get around town to save on fuel
after about a week of errend running it started backfiring when i let off and bogs down when i punch it, cleaned the air filter and carb, changed the plug
still no change, any help to point me in the right direction would be great
on a side note since im running around town 90% of the time i was wondering if anybody has put car rims on their machine?
i need a 14" rim with a 4x 115 bolt pattern and not having much luck finding anything to fit

I've heard/read somewhere's that you need to look for FORD FESTIVA rims. They're 12x4.5" which converts to roughly 12"x114.3cm. Not sure if you can get a 14" rim with that spacing, but look under TOYOTA. Try this website:
Ford - Vehicle Bolt Pattern Reference
I think backfire is caused by preignition in the combustion chamber. The momemtum of the quad is moving the piston and since it's dragging, the entry of the fuel/air into the combustion chamber pre-ignites when the rotation of the crankshaft is deaccelerating. If the fuel mixture is too rich you'll get unburnt fuel building up in the muffler. The easy way to tell that is when you accelerate you'll see a dark black smoke coming out of the exhaust.
Try these:
1. run some SEAFOAM thru it to clean out any gum'd up debris in the carb & cylinder.
2. This one will cost $$$ - It could also be a TIMING issue. If your quad has ++ miles it most likey needs the valves adjusted and the timing chain tightened. - talk to an AC dealer.
3. check to see if you can adjust your carb jetting and "lean" out your primary (usually about 1/4-1/2 a turn) Here's a manual go to page #14:

4. Also check all your carb vent hoses to ensure they're not cracked & broken. If the carb isn't venting that could lead to back firing too.
Hope this helps
Good luck. My .02¢
