Electric Start Problems

Electric Start Problems
I have a 2001 500 manual. The electric start will not work. New battery didn't solve the problem. I can't even jump it. Pull start works fine. A new /charged battery will provide auxillary power to fan, lights etc., but eventually looses its charge. When jumping it, it will click but not turn over. I've had suggestions from the starter, relay switch, selenoid, etc. Any suggestions that might help narrow down what the problem might be?

Have starter tested, may be bad. Clean relay and solenoid contacts. Clean / test start switch. You may have a voltage leak from a hot wire grounding to the frame somewhere. Grab a cheap voltmeter, and with key, startswitch, and lights off, check for voltage drain at the battery.
If indicated, pull plastics off and check for frayed / bare wiring in harness.
If no leak indicated, pull plastics and start at the pod, trace start / charge circuits back to the battery. Wire can be grounding out even if secured to frame, wrapped in tape, and looking fine to the eye.
