There are a few post where I gave detailed steps - you can do a search and probably find it.

You can download the service manual and it will tell you how to do it.

Default HELP.....Pulling the Right Rear Axle...Please!

This is for the front, for the rear (just skip step (3).
1) Remove the wheel
2) Take the brake calliber off - if you have disc brakes (two cap screws)
3) Disconnect the tie-rod (there is a cotter pin there too)
4) Remove the large nut holding the wheel housing onto the axle (there is a cotter pin there too)
5) Dicconnect the upper and lower ball joints and slide the wheel housing off the CV stem
* At this point the axle is free on the outside. - Don't let it just dangle as damage to the inner CV could result. (Per AC instructions)
6) Cut the bands on the inner boot and slide the boot back.
7) There is a large 'C' ring on inner CV joint that need to be removed - start it with a small screwdriver and grab it with needle nose pliars.
8) Slide the inner CV joint out of the housing
9) Remove the small 'C' clip from the axle
10) Slide the inner CV joint off the axle.
11 Cut the bands off the outer boot.
12) Slide both boots off the axle.
13) Install new boot and reverse the above steps.

OH - I FORGOT TO TELL YOU TO JACK THE WHEEL UP OFF THE GROUND FIRST (makes the above steps easier)

Default HELP.....Pulling the Right Rear Axle...Please!

Thanks!! buckaroo50 for your help!

One more question, How do I get the inter cup(the one connected to the rear gear housing) off? I need to replace the whole axle, is what AC is telling me.

Thanks in advance for your help!

From step #6
Cut the bands and slide the boot back
There is a large 'C' ring on the inner surface of the housing - start it with a small screwdriver and remove it with needle-nose pliars
The whole axle and CV joint then slides right out.
On the other side of the CV joint there is a small 'c' clamp around the axle, remove that and the CV joint will slide off the axle.

You will probably need a 'half-shaft' as the outer CV joint is a SB to get off. You basically have to put the axle in a vice and whale the sh_t out of the CV joint with a heavy rubber hammer or chissel. The small 'c' ring is inside the CV joint around the axle. Sometimes they will just snap right off with a little tap, most times it takes 1 man, two boys and a dog to get the darn thing off.

Place to get a half-shaft, shipping is only $5.95
If the web site doesn't list it then just call them on the phone.

Hi Backaroo50,

Is there a way to get the inter cup that the CV joint goes into off if the rear gear case. It shows in the manual to have a clip that goes around the gear that slides inside the gear case. It saids to slide it in, when installing the axle. but does say how to take it off.

Thanks for all your help !
