First off, I'd like to say thank you for expressing interest in what consumers look for. We consumers don't have many opportunities to express what ideas are rolling around in our heads with the people that can make it happen.
I'm sure I'm not alone but I'm looking for an extremely universal rear rack storage system, good for work and trail riding. The box would have both an open storage "bin" and a closable/weatherproof compartment. But one major problem that I've been running into is the height. I would prefer a rear box that is low profile, 6" or 7" high maximum, mainly to provide better rear visibility and it to allow you room to lean on technical/challenging trials with out getting hung-up. Most of the trials I ride on are rocky and hilly so anything too tall on the front or rear rack causes viewing problems.
Some of the basic features for a rear box I would like to see would be of course the typical hard oil resistant plastic for starters in a wrap around "footprint" (similar to your
Wrap-Around Quad Trunk). Other features would include a right hand closeable storage bin, a left hand water bottle holder and for the main compartment an open top bin that would securely hold a 16" or 18" chainsaw in a flat position. A couple of the nifty features I would like to see would be recessed grooves on the bottom of the open bin for the oil drip from the chainsaw and some points along the top of the rim to hook bungee cords to. Also I'd like to have the rear corners notched out just enough to clear tie-down straps from the rack. So that would be my ideal storage box. I have a few more ideas that could be an easy upgrade or an add-on such as a drop in soft bag (fits in the open compartment or could be used on the front rack), a drop-in insert that will secure a 5-gallon bucket and a drop-in insert that will secure a 2-gallon gas can or cooler.
I'm in the process of building my own on a plywood base with a 17" plastic Craftsman tool box and a mountain bike water bottle holder, it's crude but it seems to work. I would love to see something similar made of plastic offered by a manufacturer.
Thanks again for the opportunity to share ideas.
Thanks, Sal

Thanks so much SalsCREW for your input! We are ALWAYS looking for great ideas--and they come from the people who ride quads and use the boxes/baskets/ and bags. I have heard the request for a "tray" type storage--we'll see what we can do!! Thank you!

I have a friend who installted waterproof speakers in his rear box (facing out), withthe stereo inside. He sodl it on eBay and made a killing. I'd do that myslef but I'm not sure how he did it. But I think a stereo box would be great! Anyone else ever do that?

If I could design a box It would be like your wrap around style. The wings that come around would have there own hinged lid for access by the driver without getting off the quad. I prefere the main lid to open from the back like yours does. the joints would be sealable and have a male to female feature. The latches that hold lid down would not rattle while driving. the inside would have some sort of system to change the configuation slightly. there would be map pockets storage under the lid top. The lid would have hardware on the lid to strap loose clothing to.
And of course you could mount fuel packs to back and sides.
Yes if you haven't figured out by now I am moving from soft bags to hard box.
Still looking at all boxes out there.

I bought a Tamarack Titan box about 18 months ago. Within the first month, every time it rained, the water leaked through and got everything inside wet. I applied a silicon seal on the top and bottom of the box openings and that helped. I emailed Tamarack during August 2006 to tell them of the lack of waterproofing and I got a response back that I was the only one with this problem and that I would hear back from them. No response was ever received after that.
Last month during a routine trailering (less than 2 hour ride) I noticed the lock fell apart (evidently due to vibrations). I had to silicon up the lock hole to prevent more water from entering the box.
I've got to tell you that for the high price of these boxes (and previous bags from other manufacturers) that they should hold up better than a few years.
I work in the environmental field and I am constantly doing field work with expensive field instruments (some cost more than $10,000) and have over a dozen Pelican cases of various sizes. These cases are absolutely waterproof (not water-resistant) and offer the highest quality of protection for equipment. I decided that my next ATV box will be my last since I will now purchase a Large Pelican case for the front and back of my ATV.
Maybe Tamarack can build an ATV case similar to the Pelican cases. JMHO
