I would join the WATVA and talk with some member of the Harden family (Randy headed it up; last I knew). I've never met anybody more knowledgeable in the game than these people and they'll shoot straight with you if you're willing to put forth some effort also.
The WATVA (IMO) is the most successful 'black sheep' of the midwest light off-road community. These folk built a fantastic cooperative multi-use system right next door to a bunch of greedy motorcycle leaders with a lot more mileage and bridge-building opportunities...yet they were sadlled with a rude arrogance that drove plain 'ol conservative Michiganders away in comparison.
If you don't believe this; compare just the atv side of things in both states.
It is truly the biggest regional 'participation' contrast in the history of motorized recreation and the uncooperative story behind this is national orv leadership's biggest embarrasment going right now.

I have a buddy seriously considering buying a rzr to add to his atv collection. Another buddy of ours that owns a Ranger brought up the fact that the UTV's are not legal on the Wisconsin trail system. He claimed that there was a reg in the laws that said an atv must be 48" or less to be able to run on the trails. I didn't believe him until I looked it up and he was right. The RZR is 50" wide so technically it shouldn't be legal on the trails. Is anyone aware of any way around this issue? I guess that makes all of the UTV's ineligible for the Wisconsin trail system. I do occassionally see them out there but they are few and far between. The DNR up in Iron County has been out all year messing with people so I would hate to see him get one and get bounced off of the trails. What do you guys think?

The Arctic Cat Thundercat 950 is only 47.5" wide per thier spec sheet. Is this the ATV you were refering to, rzr?
