ATK is in it's first year of improving the Dales. They have tried to fix all the problematic area's to the motors and such. Is it working is the question. Well so far so good.. Only a real long term test will ever know for sure.. My friend has an ATK motor and mine was built by Wade Wilcox who licensed all his knowledge to ATK for improving the motors.. Wade was an engineer for BMW motorcycles. He designed the piston in the ATK motors. ATK is 30 miles from my house. My quad was made in the Cannondale factory in March of 2002.. I don't know where they got the 48hp and what pipe was used... Call ATK for that info.. The ATK's require more attention then a typical Japanese quad. They are just as fast or faster and handle awsome. Frames and swingarms don't break on ATKannondales like the other so called race quads.. You can by a D&M kit and if you have a laptop computer you can load different maps in the computer for low, mid, or topend or any combo w/ a custom map..The D&M kit is 300 bones and will trouble shoot certain things also..If you want simplicity by a Jap quad. If you want something unique and different then buy an ATK.. The lowest price ATK is 8k. If you want to save over 3k get a hold of Haydug..

Fuel injenction only...You must drain the oil in five places. It has a fuel filter. Higher priced synthetic oils must be used. Seperate engine and tranny oils. Fasteners should be checked every few rides. The 1200 dollar option is a map select kit. It is a switch on your handlebars by your thumb. You can switch from one of three maps w/ the flick of a the switch. If your in woods you can have the low end map in the first position. When you get in the open you can flick the switch for all topend.. They are kind of like a high mantainance girlfriend.. If you treat it right you'll be happy and rewarded. If you neglect her she'll cause you havoc... LOL

Each frame spar has oil that equals two places.
Tranny has seperate gear oil and reuseable stainless filter
Engine has a drain plug
Oil filter drains a little
Takes 15 minutes to do an oil change..
I have new vids on www.dunereview.com racing YFZ's and 450r's. I'll let you see the outcome.. Oh I did lose to a DS 720 or 760..
Posted by: Sandgod
The vids are in the readers submiited vids at the bottom..My friend and I have about 75 hrs of hard sand dune riding on them. We haven't had an issue yet.. The guys back east may laugh at that "hard sand dune riding." Running huge bowls and 2-500ft dunes is very very hard on a motor..
Posted by: Sandgod
I'm sure they all had the cam mod. They were all piped that's for sure and 30-60lbs lighter then me.... We use three or four different maps. We just like to change them for the heall of it.. When I race mx I put a blaze/speed map in it. Blaze for the low end and it switches to the Speed map at 7400 rpm for top end.. This is a custom map as well as my XMX map.. You can also change the TS setting. It's how hard you want the particlar map to hit. Really hard or more manageable.. Cannondale set them at 150. We run at 110 because sand requires a big hit for a two stroke like hit.. Most people back east run 130-150...

My torque number is a misprint, sorry about that.. I need to fix that. I never look at my pics.. My races are w/ the ATK piston.. I don't run the Face. It is just to hard on a motor.. The big bore shee's can have the glory on the Face.. They can't get through whoops anyway on the Valley side.. LOL I don't shine my quad so I'm not sure what your seeing in that reguards.. Oh,,, we are heading to the dunes in about 10 hrs..
Posted by: Sandgod
The Valley is the long side and the Face is the steep side. I usually get through the whoops better then 99% of the people. The whoops is part of the race. If you can't get through them you better learn how.. The Cannondale rear end just soaks them up.. Gearing/tires/rider weight determines what gear you get up. In those vids I am in second tapped and the YFZ's are in third tapped. The ATK that races the Yoshi. The ATK rider is about 230-240lbs and he was in third tapped.. He runs different gearing then me..

im sort of in the market for a new quad and JUST found out that cannondale is back under the name ATK? (bike company?)
anyway just wondering if i could get specs for the lowest model (dont need the high tech high dollar racing setups) i found somewhere stock HP was like 48? is this on teh base model? anyone know what they sell for out the door on average? i have only heard of one dealer which is in ohio somewhere...
any help is appreciated!

snooze i lose? (does this have a hidden meaning i should know about? such as wont be able to get a deal later on down the road?)
is haydug the only one doing atks? so far that is the only dealer i have heard of selling them (im in northern illinois so its probably like a 7 hour drive for me... do they ship?)
how many people actually have the VR? (lowest model right?) is it reliable? a good quad? its nearly impossible to find info on these things! what does the lowest end model sell for out the door? (i saw on atk's site that it is 48 hp...do all have 48 stock?)
Posted by: R00ST
hmmm this is SO difficult to find info.... its like a hidden underground world of cannodales!
would you mind answering just a few questions? Or could you link me to an info source?
i want to know about what the atk 450 VR (lowest mdoel right?) sells for OTD
did you get urs all the way from OH?
is this the first year of production under the ATK name? (did they change the quad or just re start up production of the originals?)
if the 48hp rating is correct with a stock muffler (or does it come with an aftermarket one?) having ohlins shocks and such STOCK makes it look awesome on paper....
ANY help is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks

is that kit fuel injection? (are they carb'd from the factory or injected? i saw a fuel injection kit as an upgrade for 1200..or is that an upgrade to a higher level injection?)
by saying extra attention in what ways? i do my fair share of maintenance, but wouldnt want somthing that is constantly needing stuff adjusted. (i assume the efi stays pretty solid once a good map is set?) just trying to figure out what would need attention
Thanks

well see i had a dream girl...her name was DS 650 BAJA.... i treated her VERY well...LOTS of attention (and i mean a crap load...) and the dumb H0 repays me by making me spend over 1k on OEM parts...( it still dosnt run...after fixing all the crap i found an oil leak and the battery is dead AGAIN)
oil drain in 5 places? dang.... why so many places? (i could see maybe engine/resevoir tranny (resevoir for tranny oi?)

which vids show u dragging the yfz? (there are a lot lol)
so you have one of the rebuilt motor'd 02/03's?
how many hours do you have on it? any issues at all?
i did call doug today...great guy. I might just have to look a bit further into this BR>
my biggest concern is that ive never ridden one, and that it will fall apart after the measily 30 day warranty...
Posted by: R00ST
nice vids. Did you drag crankenstein? lol
what mods do you have besides the reliability/450 kit and the pipe?
(i see you have the "maz" map, do you adjust it often? or mainly just stick with one map?)
were the yfz's you were racing just piped? (or stock? was hard to with so many four strokes)
the more i look into these the more im liking them BR>
has atk produced there own quads yet? (i see the 3 on the site...but are they available for sale yet?) seeing as how i couldnt afford a TRUE atk in say a year (with base being like 8k...) im thinking the revamped 03 cannibal is right for me
Posted by: R00ST
is that an aftermarket piston, or the one ATK puts in for the 450cc kit? 61ft lbs of torque? thats pretty impressive. what HP #'s do you get? (i assume you have had it dyno'd?) do you happen to know what stock torque is?
when you raced those yfz's did you have the piston/atk mods?
(just wondering how i would fair against my friends yfzs...one is stock, one has pipe/filter, other has pipe/filter/cam/flywheel (not to mention way to much into suspension...lol)
are the maps all free? (i saw a map section on cannondaleriders site, you just load them on the laptop then onto the quad? (seems so easy )
i also noticed in ur pics a motor that has quite the shine, is that yours? (lots of cannons in the pics, i take it alot of your riding buddies have them?) is that all polished or chromed?
by the way, ur pics ROCK. (we have only been to REAL dunes once, which was LS utah...and we are dying to go back out west...our next big trip isnt till june tho (st.anthonies) BR>
one more question (sorry for hammering you with hundreds of them, but i do appreciate it a lot) what gear do you run up the face of sand mountain? with my fat self (6'2 240 and my fat quad, 500+ ) i could pull 3rd half way up but had to shift to second. (i had one too th down on the CT, but made up for it in the rear by running 22 sand stars...so about stock gearing)
just wondering if the can 450 would be able to pull.
Thanks

the piston you have, is that just the one that ATK puts in when they boost it to a 450?
valley side is the side to the left of the main razorback up the middle right? (whoops at the bottom) what gear do you pull up that?
i only went up the face a handful of times, but when i did i always varied the throttle (cant stand keepign a quad flat out pinned WOT for more than a second or two)
